A fire pit can be a great addition to your outdoor living space, but the decision of which product to buy is not an easy one. There are many different products and features that you need to take into consideration before making a purchase. In this article we will discuss some guidelines for choosing the best fire pit: what type of fuel it should use, how big it should be, and how much money you want to spend on it.
How to use Fire Pit
There are many different options for fire pits, and the best way to determine which product is right for you depends on what type of fuel it should use. Fire pit fuels can either be natural or propane gas-powered. A wood burning option typically requires more maintenance than a gas fireplace because it needs to be constantly refueled with logs in order to keep it going. Gas fire pits are usually considered superior because they do not need logs to run, and the heat is more consistent than with wood burning models.

Fire pit sizes typically range from 24-inches in diameter up to 48 or even 60 inches depending on how much space you have available for your patio area. It should be small enough to be able to fit on your patio without taking up too much space, but big enough that it can comfortably accommodate the people who will be sitting around it.
If you want a fire pit with some extra features or more decoration then there are many options available for purchase. These usually come at a higher price point and might not be necessary if you just want a basic fireplace.
People commonly buy fire pits for their home because they provide warmth and ambiance while entertaining guests outdoors on chilly nights. Fire pits can be used all year round so there is no need to wait until the colder months arrive in order to start enjoying them!
Useful Tips
- Use rocks to raise the fire pit off of the ground, this keeps you from spotting on grass or damaging your deck.
- Start by using some sand in the bottom of your pit for fires that don’t have hot embers. This will help with clean up later and prevent any scorching damage to wood decks. Sand can also be used for wood that is damp to help it burn.
- If you want your fire pit to last longer, keep the metals parts clean by rubbing then down with oil after each use and store them in a cool dry place during winter months or when not in use.
- Use large chunks of wood to keep the fire going longer. The bigger pieces will burn with you all night long, and they also let off more heat than smaller bits do. You can easily control this process by using larger logs at first then gradually adding small twigs as it progresses through the evening hours.
- Don’t put lighter fluid on your fire pit. This can ruin the metal and cause damage to surrounding areas, plus it’s just plain nasty smelling.
- Don’t use flammable liquids or gasoline for starting a new fire in your pit as this is extremely dangerous and may lead to serious accidents happening.
- If you’re looking for an easy way to start a fire, use charcoal lighter fluid. This will help get your pit going quickly and easily without any mess or hassle.
- Don’t feed the fire after midnight, it’s bad luck! Or at least that’s what some people say…
- Keep an old bucket of water close by when you’re enjoying a campfire with friends and family. If someone gets too close to the fire pit, they can easily be helped by throwing a little water on them from this bucket.
- Don’t put any metal items in your fire pit as these may get extremely hot and melt or burn through coming into contact with the flames. Just use wooden sticks for roasting marshmallows, hot dogs or anything else you want to cook over the fire.
- Don’t use your wood deck as a place for your fire pit! It’s just not smart and can lead to serious accidents happening that may cause heat damage to it.
