The first step to stucco a fireplace is to prep the area by cleaning off all grime and dirt from the walls. Next, you want to tape any cracks or gaps in between brick joints with waterproof adhesive sealant. Now it’s time for some drywall mud! Apply an even coat over the entire surface of the wall until it reaches about 1/4″ thickness. There are many different types of textures that you can apply onto your drywall mud before it dries such as: sandpaper, sponge applicator, trowel, or any other tool you have.

After the texture is applied to your fireplace walls it’s time for paint! Make sure to use a high quality primer followed by two coats of paint in whatever color you want. Finally, after everything has dried and cured properly (usually about 24 hours) apply clear silicone over all joints and seams where the mud meets the brick to prevent any water damage.
