A fireplace pilot light will use a small amount of propane each day. As an example, on average, it takes about 0.75 gallons per month to keep the pilot lit for one hour every day in winter conditions when the outdoor temperatures are between -20 and 20 degrees Fahrenheit (-30 and -12 Celsius). In warmer weather with higher outside temperatures, the monthly usage drops under 0.25 gallons (less than half gallon) because there is less need for heating inside your home or cabin during warm summer days.
