How to arrange furniture with corner fireplace?

Arranging furniture with a corner fireplace can be challenging when you have a small space to work with. However, there are some guidelines that will help you get an idea on how to place your pieces of furniture in the room.

– Corner fireplaces don’t require much depth from the wall because they’re not going against it directly ーthere’s already enough support from the chimney itself. Generally speaking, this means that most chairs and sofas won’t need more than four inches or ten centimeters between them and walls/corners. In other words, only keep forward facing pieces away from corners by at least these measurements! That being said…

– Any piece of upholstered furniture that doesn’t have any arms or other projections should be able to sit flush with the wall.

– Furniture that has arms and/or legs can still turn towards a corner, but it’s important not to let them bump out too much ーyou don’t want guests or family members inadvertently knocking into them and causing damage! The way we see it, the best option would be to position these pieces so they’re at an angle of around 135 degrees from one another…which is where 45 degree angles come in handy again.

– When you have more than two seats facing each other in close proximity, consider using footstools between them for extra space ーnot only will this help separate people when necessary (as opposed to just pushing chairs apart), but it will also make the space feel more open.

– If you have a recliner chair, leave at least 12 inches of clearance behind it to allow people enough room to walk by ーdon’t forget that this is likely where your coffee table or end tables are going! With one less piece in front of them, these chairs should be able to sit closer together if need be.

– When you have a two seat sofa, try to keep it at least 48 inches from the back wall.

– With a loveseat or single chair, try to keep that 60 inches away.

– For any piece of furniture with exposed legs ー chairs and tables alike ー make sure they’re all about 30″ off the floor (remember: this is for hardwood/tile floors). If you’d like some more guidance on how much space your new fireplace should take up in terms of length and width…here are those measurements again! Corner fireplaces generally don’t require as wide an opening as freestanding models do…but if yours happens to be wider than 32″, we still leaving no less than 18″ of clearance to the sides and back for safety reasons.

– At least 36″ of width is required in front (remember: you’ll need more space if your fireplace has a mantel).

– The minimum depth that we recommend for corner fireplaces is 24″. That being said, it’s important to note that this isn’t going to be enough room for an average sized TV ー even with cabinets on either side! You should plan on at least double these measurements…which would require 48″ or 60″ of depth respectively depending on whether or not there’s a mantle involved.
